This shot was taken from our Cabin at Olifants Camp in Kruger National Park.
I am not a big believer in double stacking my teleconverters on the big guns as it’s much harder to get a sharp shot this way.
This shot is with the 1D Mark 3, with a 500/4 Prime lens, a 2x Teleconverter (mark 2 model) and a 1.4x teleconverter. The Mark 2, 2x, can be tacked, the older model cannot.
Every now and then we break the rules. Sometimes it works. I think this one works not too badly

Ian - Hi Rob,
Rules are ment to be broken. Only those who are prepared to go outside the square will get that shot that is special………It was worth breaking the rules….
Steve - Rob – This is a fantastic image! Spectacular.. easily the best image I’ve enjoyed from almost any African trip I’ve seen..
carrie - This picture give me a feeling, life…
carie - Up to now, I found out I like this picture best.
In this one scene, every lion is different from others.
