This is the Thailand Buddhist National Centre at

Suan Phuttamonton (Phuttamonton Park) is a very large park just outside Bangkok in Nakorn Pathom province, a few kilometres west of Bangkok’s southern bus terminal.

Much of the park consists of open woodland with mown grass underneath the canopy, with pools, flower beds and gardens, although there are a few areas where the ground layer is uncut and insect diversity is fairly high, attracting a number of birds. Apart from birdwatching, this is a good place to have a picnic in a quiet corner of the park and it would be most enjoyable to cycle around. (Thanks http://www.thaibirding.com for the reference)

Today there was a festival there. I will come back with more details, as it’s all a bit confusing.. (for me)

It’s a gathering place for 000’s of Monks during certain ceremonies. (I am unsure of the meaning of this one)

They graciously allowed me to skulk around taking pictures.

A Day at the Beach

Today we had a nice wind swept day at the Beaches north of Perth.
It was mild (Around 25C) and the wind pummelled the coastline.
It was moving the sand a lot and that gave a few interesting times heading over some dunes.

Sanctuary of Truth – in Colour

This amazing edifice, south of Bangkok near Pattaya, never ceases to Amaze. As usual in Thailand the experience is likely to change a lot depending on who’s running it at any particular point in time. We’ve done this a few times, by ourselves, and with guests that frequently come in on Business or for vacation time. This site forms part of a longer “Pattaya Run” which would include the defunct “Sai Thip” Butterfly Park, Khao Keow Open Zoo (a contradiction in terms really), Sri Racha Tiger Zoo (The site of most of our better Tiger shots) and perhaps a round of Golf at Leam Cheabang or a night in Pattaya Proper for some kick boxing and a few ales on the famous “Walking Street”

LIon Pride and a Double Stack

This shot was taken from our Cabin at Olifants Camp in Kruger National Park.

I am not a big believer in double stacking my teleconverters on the big guns as it’s much harder to get a sharp shot this way.

This shot is with the 1D Mark 3, with a 500/4 Prime lens, a 2x Teleconverter (mark 2 model) and a 1.4x teleconverter. The Mark 2, 2x, can be tacked, the older model cannot.

Every now and then we break the rules. Sometimes it works. I think this one works not too badly

Today’s picture is a pano from the Canon 1Ds Mark 3. It’s an amalgam of seven shots taken hand held. I used Adobe Photoshop’s Merge Photo feature to get this done. My Macbook Pro with 2GB of RAM chugged quite badly doing it. Might be a good reason for an upgrade. he he

Panoramic Photos are relatively easy in 2009. The Software and tools are awesome and allow for plenty of trial and error in the actual capture process. Really all that needs to be done is a suitable overlap. One can be quite extravagant in the capture process, but you need some heavy processing power when you get it home!!

Today was our quietest days in the park. About 10 Rhino and Elephant and general game, with about 7 hours of driving.

Kruger Park – Day 4

Today was a little overcast, yet productive.

We had three Safari drives, one in the early AM (up at 5:31 and out the gate at first light 6:21), one in the late morning and early afternoon and then the ubiquitous afternoon drive.

We interacted with Elephant, Hyena and many other species of mamal and bird.

Todays image is from a Hyena den that we discovered not far from the camp. There were three babies being guarded by a couple of females (At least one that was suckling). This shot shows one of the guards prancing around with the skin of a dead animal, playing with the small ones. Quite the scene it set as they ran around.

Kruger – Day 3 (Baby Elephant)

Today was one of those tough days ion the park.

We did succeed, through tenacity and sheer distances travelled to get some great images and great memories.

This image, taken at close range on a Bridge, was one of the days favourites. These babies, part of a small herd of about 20 elephant, were playing and fightiong and messing about in general. They were uber cute!!

Kruger Trip Begins

Here’s a Photo from the Airport this afternoon.

Yesterday we were punted off our Kenya Airways Flight after some thugs were removed for bad behaviour and the planes computer was on the blink.

Today they told us it wasn’t fixed. They wanted us to go back to the Airport Hotel until they “Sorted it out”. We refused and requested politely that they endorse us on another airline to get us there on time.

We’re now in the Emirates Lounge awaiting the new flight – 24 Hours later!!!!
